Interface Internships

Interface internships are:

· with strong community engagement
· leading to a Diploma in Ministry

They cover equal work to classroom but are unique in offering interns church/community-based training:

· 50% college-based classes and
· 50% church- and community-based practical ministry training.

Interface internships are for students who are:

· Interning with a church
· Seeking to be actively engaged in their local communities
· Best at learning through a very skills-focussed course

Practical Ministry Training

Interns work with local churches to engage the local community through areas such as:

· Schools ministry
· Youth programs
· Involvement in local community centres
· Outreach through art or hobby groups
· Discipling ministry
· Church planting
· Volunteer work in nursing homes or with people with disabilities
· Work with homeless youth and street people
· Festival outreach
· Volunteer service with senior citizens groups etc.

Some of these placements would be organised through our Tabor Worx system.

Advantage to the church

· Interns work with their churches in practical ministry for 500 hours of church and community practicum each year.
· Interns gain a broad range of ministry skills in their church context.

Advantage to the student

· Interns may be able to access Austudy as this course is fully accredited.
· Students can learn a range of skills for use both inside and outside the church for example: evangelism, basic counselling, pastoral care, youth group leadership, outreach to New Age people etc.

What’s involved?

Interns over 2 years full time complete:

· 6 “core” Bible and Theology subjects,
· 4 ministry stream electives, (worked out with the course coordinator)
· 10 subjects of internship practicum including 500 hours in the church and community each year.

Practical learning and application streams

All interns will choose a stream to focus on and be supervised in their practical ministry. Interns will work through fieldwork/internship workbooks that guide them through action-reflection learning in a wide range of ministry skills:

· Youth Ministry
· Community ministry
· Pastoral ministry
· Church leadership
· Creative ministry

Supervision and Workbooks

An important part of each intern’s learning is having good supervisor/s who provide oversight for particular ministry areas.

Workbooks are provided for various skill areas in practical ministry to enable interns to read relevant material and reflect on their ministry experiences. The workbooks guide interns through a series of skills development opportunities with the church or local community, providing a low maintenance flexible structure for church and community-based learning.
